At the end of June 2025, the Life SPAN project team visited Lithuania to meet with the Life Osmoderma and Life Osmo Baltic projects as part of networking and good practice exchange activities.
The main goal was to expand the network of working groups focused on the management of habitat trees and deadwood, and on the conservation of saproxylic organisms.
A key focus was the in-depth exploration of a project and its approach to creating an ecological corridor for Osmoderma eremita, which starts in Poland, crosses the entire Lithuanian territory, and reaches Latvia.
Particular attention was also given to outreach and educational activities carried out by the projects within the Kaunas city zoo. These efforts effectively raise public awareness about the importance of saproxylic organisms, their role in forest ecosystems, and the threats they face.
This networking activity will be followed by a meeting of various Life projects across Europe that are working on deadwood, habitat trees, and saproxylic organisms, which Life SPAN is organizing for October 2025.
Stay tuned!
