Last week we were in Cansiglio for two days of discussion on the project's themes with the participation of local administrators and key stakeholders such as PEFC Italia and FSC Italia.

In the demonstration area of Cansiglio the first 8 SHS (Saproxylic Habitat Sites) foreseen by the project have been realized. Having completed the pro-senescence interventions, to increase deadwood presence, microhabitats, structural diversity and gaps, we moved to install devices for the monitoring of insects, bats and birds.

While we are waiting for the winter to pass in the Italian demonstration area to resume field activities planned by the project, in Germany, more precisely in the forest of Sailershausen, researchers from Würzburg University, organized the launch event of Life SPAN dedicated to German stakeholders.

Last days we had the first plenary meeting of the LIFE SPAN. Representatives of all partners met in the Cansiglio for a two-day meeting and visit to the demonstration sites.

The Initial Conference of the LIFE SPAN project will be held online on June 21 at 10:30 am. We will present the objectives and activities envisaged by the project, from the initial stages of updating management plans to the implementation of SHSs and monitoring of the effects on forest biodiversity.
