The LIFE SPAN project’s trailer is now online

To celebrate the European Natura 2000 Day 2021, the LIFE SPAN project’s trailer is now online!

The Natura 2000 Network is the main European tool for biodiversity conservation, an extensive ecological network composed by terrestrial and marine areas diffused over the whole EU territory. It was developed from early ‘90 becoming today the most extensive system of protected areas of the world.

One of the main objectives of the LIFE SPAN project is forest biodiversity conservation, with a focus on saproxylic species. These species, linked at least in one stage of their life cycle, to decaying or dead wood or to other saproxylic organisms constitute a category, often neglected, that represents as much as 30% of forest biodiversity.

The habitats and the majority of the species involved in our project are protected by the Natura 2000 Network that have listed them within the habitat and species of community interest through dedicated directives. LIFE SPAN project, through specific designed “senescence island”, will create new habitats and improve  the existing ones enhancing the spreading of saproxylic towards territory where they are absent or not widespread due to forest management reasons.
